The 1934 St. Louis Cardinals baseball team called the Gashouse Gang which dominated the National League and won the World Series that year includes American athletes (left to right) pitcher Paul Dean (1913 - 1981), shortstop (later manager of the New York Giants) Leo Durocher (1905 - 1991), pitcher Tex Carleton (1906 - 1977), pitcher Wild Bill Hallahan (1902 - 1981), outfielder Chick Fullis (1904 - 1946), infielder Whitey Whitehead (1910 - 1993), catcher Spud Davis (1904 - 1984), pitcher Bill Walker (1903 - 1966), and pitcher Jim Mooney (1906 - 1979), 1934.
