American baseball player Ted Williams (1918 - 2002), #9 of the Boston Red Sox poses in the cockpit of a Grumman F9F-6 Panther jet fighter, during his service as a U.S. Marine Corps pilot in the Korean War, circa 1952. Williams played for the Boston Red Sox between 1939 and 1960, with periods as a military pilot in World War II, from 1942 until 1946, and Korea from 1952 to 1953.
