American professional baseball player and second baseman Charlie Gehringer (1903 - 1993) (right) of the Detroit Tigers slides into first base during the tenth inning of game two of the World Series between Detroit and the St. Louis Cardinals at Navin Field, Detroit, Michigan, October 4, 1934. Although the Tigers would win the twelve-inning game with a score of 3-2, the Cardinals would ultimately win the World Series 4-3. (Photo by FPG/Getty Images)
