Known as the "Black Babe Ruth" for his home run prowess, Gibson played for the Pittsburgh Crawfords and the Homestead Grays in the Negro Leagues. He never had the opportunity to play in the Major Leagues because he died a few months before Jackie Robinson's historic debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. 1945.
